Fundamentally, my work depicts landscapes at the end of the world. Viewers are confronted with earth and trees exploding outward into realms that are as much about death and decay as life: the apocalyptic sublime. Fragments of bodies litter the landscape as urban and natural elements collide. My work is a metaphorical exploration of the psychological contemporary landscape as well as ties to the actual physical landscape. The work rides the line between abstraction and figuration. In my process, painting involves construction and destruction, scraping, and the pushing of paint into suggestive and expressive forms, which trigger open narratives.
